Hello brother, I would like to comment about this:
"I dream of the day when I can cancel my Internet service and get rid of my cell phone because I live in a town where everyone I know is a 30 minute walk from my front door and I buy all my groceries from a farmer just down the road. The problem is that this type of world has disappeared, or is rapidly disappearing from this country and I don’t believe it will ever return unless we have no other choice."
I'm 26 years old and spend half of my life the way you dream. Peru, where I life, is a diverse country, so you just need 4 hours in car, any cardinal direction, to meet people with different cultural backgrounds, cities with different architectures, plenty of new recipes (not only for food)!
Now, human being loves to stay unhappy whatever he is doing, blondes want black hair, shorts want to be tall... Hopefully, there is a fabulous word: "contentment". Christians are called to hurry! "For in just a very little while, 'He who is coming will come and will not delay..." Hebrews 10:37. So do as @chx, you can't be distracted by "the world" because is a corrupted system, we are not called to change the world, we are called to bring people into the rein of God, which is sorted already. Is like migrate our data from CrappySoft(the world) to GoodnessSoft(God's rein).
Finally, "The light shines in the darkness" John 1:5a, you are a light man, let's keep shining :)

Cool post Bob, it reminded me of a conversation my wife had with her grandmother.

She was a German immigrant moved to Colorado and raised four kids in a shack we'd hesitate to park our car in. No water, no electricity. Life was difficult; they made clothes out of feed sacks and survived the long winter by hunting prairie dogs. In later years she made good. She some wise investments, bought a nice home, and was even a guest at the White House.

Knowing her past, it came as a shock when she told my wife, "You kids have it so tough these days." She explained, "We didn't have all of the amenities in those days, but a couple could survive on one income. Now both in the couple have to earn just to make it."

In many, many WWII was the country's tipping point. I don't long for the dust bowl days, but wish we could recapture some remnants of yesterday. Perhaps a first step is to try and recapture their outlook on life.

Hehe...actually you are just catching onto a point I was making. I was subtly saying that I see the modern life as a "hustle" but also see it as full of hussle and bussle. So, I did indeed mean both.

Thanks for reading.
